little boy just had another follow up blood test to check his phosphorus levels, along with his tsh levels. Two weeks ago he has had his tsh level on the top end, around 7, and his phosphorus levels were at the bottom end, around 3.7.
Today another result came in at the endocronologist's lab, (and they never tested his calcium levels, either), and his TSH was 12.8, his phosphorus was 4.8. The nurse told me that they don't check his calcium levels every time, yet when I asked her what his last one was, she got irrate and said she would have to look through his whole chart again, and I in turn told her to send these results to his Primary Care Physician, they were awaiting the them.
Doctor, this kid cannot keep warm hands and feet, but when he plays and jumps he overheats really fast, and his face will be beet red, along with pouring sweat from the top of his head down...he has chronic constipation since he was 10 months old, he has been on so many laxatives, i.e. prescribed Miralax, olive oil, mineral oil, ex-lax, etc...(he also has light cafe au lait spots on his back)
he suffers very frequent colds, he has had over 28 ear infections, 4 sets of tubes, his adnoids removed 2x, his tonsils taken out last month, he sweats and smells like a teenager, (but has no pubic/or arm pit hair, that's why they ruled out petuitary gland issue) seasonal allergies, he had a colonoscopy last year, so many tests performed including cystic fibrosis tests, Hirschsprungs disease test, the doctors first thought he had a gallbladder duplication after an ultrasound, so he had to go back in for another one and that's when they found he has a folding gallbladder. Has has an overly large colon because of the constant constipation over the years, as well as previous rectal prolapses....he also tested positive for bacterial overgrowth in his stomach, (the blow test) he was put on antibiotics again....
His pancreatic enzymes were elevated, along with high calcium levels. his creatinine levels were elevated, too, according to tests done last year...
He gets these spurts of energy lately, and I can't get him to slow down. Then he has no energy at all. His moods vary as well, he can be really sweet, then a complete terror, from one minute to the next. He does not have ADD, and we assumed it was because of him being a normal 4 year old boy... now I am not so sure...
His hair is coarse, his skin really fair, he has no outward signs of lack to thrive, so they say, from looking at him he seems fine, but he has an extremely high pain tolerance, and what we perceive to be pain is normal for him...his weight is 39 lbs. and he is 43 1/2 inches tall...
his mother and I KNOW he has a complex metabolic disorder, but these doctors will never find it unless they talk together, and he is put under one roof, where they can monitor his blood more regulary. And until the levels perceived as NORMAL levels are changed, he will never be diagosed at all.
My grandson is also on state aid, through the State of Washington, so many nessesary tests will probably go undone, to say the least... We are very worried, his symptoms are getting worse, and his blood work is extremely unstable.
Can you advise us on how to proceed from here?
